Throughout the movie multiple characters in Jeffries apartment look into other people’s homes and into their private lives.
What you see isn’t always what you get
At the beginning of the movie, Jeffries makes up his own ideas for the types of people that each of his neighbors are. All of their lives seem pretty normal except for at the Thorwald home. At the end of the movie, we find out that Jeffries perception of each of his neighbor’s lives isn’t what he originally thought it was. For example, the dancing beauty who had multiple men over throughout the story, turns out to be waiting for average looking army boyfriend to come home.
Marriage
Throughout the whole movie, we see multiple couples and their relationships with their partners. Jeffries isn’t into the idea of getting married throughout most of the film. It isn’t until Lisa sneaks into Thorwald’s apartment and puts his wife’s ring on her finger that Jeffries has a sudden change of heart, and can’t imagine his life without Lisa. This being said, another theme seems to be that every will work out in the end.
